Rare Daion Power Mark XX Bass Guitar on Ebay.com.au

I was way too slow in getting this one up before it sold, but none the less a record of it needs to be made.

This is a very rare in Australia Daion Power Mark XX Bass Guitar. The seller comments tell all there is to know about it, and I'm not surprised it was snapped up quickly for the asking price of AU$1,400.

Daion Mark XX-B
  • Maple and Rosewood laminated Body
  • 9 piece Maple & Rosewood through-the-body neck
  • Ebony fingerboard with brass dot positions
  • 24 frets
  • Split single-coil pickup in front & 8 pole single-coil pickup in back
  • Brass nut & saddles
  • Heavy duty bridge
  • Heavy duty machine heads
  • Deep glossy clear finish
The unique through-the-body neck construction provides additional strength and a low profile heel for easy fret access. This bass has an asymmetric neck profile, which, combined with the width of the neck, makes it a dream to play.

The neck core consists of two thick strips of rosewood with a thin piece of maple in the middle sandwiched between four plies of maple, two per side, themselves separated with a thin slice of rosewood.

The wings of the body are a  5 piece laminate of ash and maple separated by thin slices of rosewood.

The adjustable bridge is heavy duty brass with side lock screws.

From the serial number on the back of the head I think it was made in 1981. Daion went out of business in 1984. The company was based in texas but the instruments were made in Japan. These instruments were pretty expensive when new and were aimed at competing with other high end basses. This particular model was top of the line. The company went under before they really established a reputation that would have undoubtedly followed instruments of this quality.

I bought this guitar around 1995. Cosmetically the guitar is very clean with a few minor dings and scratches.

Comes with a hard case.

  1. Gidday Darren, this 1981 MK XX Power Bass ( Sn # 814180 ) now lives in the Illawarra. My Bass Guitar teacher has the same model and when this one came up it was a no brainer, I just had to have it. It is in very good condition for its age and all switch's and controls work perfectly.
PS - great site mate !
